Italian boss agrees £8.8m deal to replace Wenger as Arsenal manager
According to reports in Italy via the Mirror, Carlo Ancelotti has agreed terms over a contract worth £8.8m-per-season to replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager.
Reports in recent days have suggested that Arsenal chiefs are finally coming around to the idea that Wenger’s time at the club is up and have been sounding out potential replacements.
Ancelotti emerged as a prime candidate with speculation earlier this week suggesting that Arsenal have identified the Italian supremo as the man they want to take over when Arsene leaves.
The Mirror are now citing reports coming from Corriere dello Sport that claim Ancelotti has agreed terms over a four-year deal worth £8.8m-per-season to become Arsenal’s new manager.
Wenger still has 18-months left to run on the two-year deal he signed back in July but the club have always said they would review his position at the end of this season.
These reports appear to suggest that Arsenal chiefs are ready to ask Wenger to walk away in the summer as I highly doubt Ancleotti would be prepared to sit around until 2019 to take over.
The 58-year-old has been out of work since leaving Bayern Munich in September so he’ll be itching to get back in the hot-seat and it seems he’s been lined-up for a return to London.
Ancelotti has plenty of experience in the Premier League after leading Chelsea to a league and FA Cup double in 2010 while he’s also won trophies with Juventus, AC Milan, PSG, Real Madrid and Munich.
Some would like a young manager with fresh ideas to take over from Wenger and I wouldn’t be against that but I can also see the merits in bringing in an experienced manager like Ancelotti who will be able to handle replacing a huge figure like Arsene.
