Arsenal in battle with Real Madrid to sign £60m Sanchez replacement
According to a report in the Mirror, Arsenal are facing competition from Real Madrid for the signature of Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir.
Fekir is one of the most exciting young forwards in Europe and has enhanced that reputation having scored 13 goals in 16 games in all competitions so far this season.
The 24-year-old has been with Lyon since joining their youth academy in 2011 but he’s hotly tipped to move to a bigger club either in January or in the summer.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for Fekir this month with the Daily Star reporting last week that we are close to agreeing a £60m deal with Lyon to sign the attacker at the end of the season.
Wenger needs to have plans in place for when Alexis Sanchez leaves as the 28-year-old is expected to join Manchester City either in a cut-price deal this winter or on a free transfer in June.
Fekir can be deployed as a No.10 behind the frontman, as a striker or even out on the wing so he’d be an excellent replacement for the Chilean international if we could get a deal wrapped-up.
However, it looks like we’re going to face some stiff competition as the Mirror are citing a report from French outlet SFR Sport that claims Real Madrid have now joined Arsenal in the race to sign Fekir.
Zinedine Zidane is expected to revamp his squad following a poor start to their title defence and obviously the lure of playing for Madrid will be tempting for Fekir if they make a formal move.
I’d love to see either Fekir or Thomas Lemar join Arsenal once Sanchez leaves [maybe both if Ozil goes?] so we need to move quickly to get a deal agreed with Lyon asap before Madrid come calling and gazump us.
