Arsenal to make fresh attempt to sign 22-year-old in January

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal will make a fresh attempt to sign Raheem Sterling by demanding he’s included as part of any deal involving Alexis Sanchez joining Manchester City this January.
Sanchez came close to moving to City during the closing stages of the summer and it was widely reported that Arsene Wenger asked for Sterling to be included in any deal.
Nothing came of it as Pep Guardiola said there was no chance he was prepared to let the England international leave and Sterling himself has said he wasn’t in the slightest bit tempted by a move to Arsenal.
However, that doesn’t appear to have deterred Wenger as the Daily Mail claim Arsenal will revive their interest in Sterling when City come calling for Alexis this winter.
Sanchez is once again being tipped to move to the Etihad when the transfer window reopens in January as he continues to run down his contract at Arsenal.
Reports in recent weeks suggest we’ll cash-in on the Chilean international at around £30m rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the season and City remains firm favourites.
Obviously getting Sterling in part-exchange would work well for Arsenal as we’d get a ready-made replacement but there is virtually no chance we’ll lure the attacker to north London.
Firstly, why would Sterling want to leave City right now? He’s playing under Guardiola and has scored 10 goals already this season for a team that’s 8 points clear and on course to winning the title.
Secondly, Guardiola has made it clear Sterling is firmly in his plans and has proven this by handing the 22-year-old 10 starts in all competitions so far.
And finally, even if City agreed a deal with Arsenal and Guardiola told him to leave, why would Sterling choose to play for Wenger after he publicly accused him of diving earlier this month?
It makes no sense and this is a total non-starter if you ask me. We’d be better off not wasting our time pursuing Sterling and go after more realistic targets like Thomas Lemar or Nabil Fekir.
