According to the Daily Star, Arsenal are on the verge of agreeing a deal worth at least £60m to sign Lyon forward Nabil Fekir.
The newspaper claims in their ‘exclusive’ report that Arsenal are in advanced talks over the transfer with a £60m deal understood to be ‘almost done’ for the highly-rated attacker.
The Star goes on to say that once we complete a deal to sign Fekir, it will open the door for Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to leave the club when the window re-opens in January.
Neither player is any closer to agreeing a new contract so it’s reported that Arsenal will cash-in this winter if clubs are willing to pay around £30m each.
Man City are expected to renew their interest in Sanchez while Ozil’s been linked with Man Utd in recent weeks but the Star claims Arsenal are confident of pulling-off a deal to sign Fekir.
The 24-year-old can play up front, off the striker or even out on the wing so he’s probably more suited to being a replacement for Sanchez than he would be for Ozil.
But either way, I think he’d be a superb addition to the squad if we could complete what would be a club record £60m deal – which would surpass the £52m we paid Lyon for Alexandre Lacazette last summer.
Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has described Fekir as being their version of Lionel Messi and he’s bagged 11 goals in his 11 games so far this season so he’s certainly hot-property right now.
However, I personally don’t think Lyon would see their key man in the middle of the season and Aulas is a nightmare to deal with so no doubt any potential transfer will be drawn out until the summer.
But Fekir is probably worth the wait as he’s a huge talent and I’d love to see him playing for Arsenal at some point in the near future.
