Arsenal’s hopes of keeping Alexis Sanchez given major boost
It looks like Arsenal have been handed a major boost as the Express claim that Bayern Munich are refusing to meet Alexis Sanchez’s wage demands and have turned their attention to Yannick Carrasco.
Sanchez is about to enter the final year of his current contract and so far Arsenal have been unable to agree terms over an extension with our Chilean superstar.
Widespread reports suggest Sanchez is demanding at least £300,000-a-week while he’s also got concerns about our competitiveness on the pitch as he wants to be winning major honours.
It’s led to intense speculation that Alexis will join a European giant this summer and Bayern Munich have emerged as a front-runner for his signature in recent weeks.
Carlo Ancelotti needs to find a replacement for Juventus-bound Douglas Costa and speculation suggested Sanchez was a prime target for the Bundesliga champions.
Alexis’s compatriot Arturo Vidal has also been talking-up the possibility of the 28-year-old joining him at the Allianz Arena this summer so there were real fears Sanchez could be off to Germany.
However, it looks like any potential deal has stalled as the Express are citing a report from German outlet Bild that claims Bayern are refusing to meet Sanchez’s £22m-a-season wage demands.
The report says a deal to sign Alexis is now unlikely so Bayern have turned their attention to signing Atletico Madrid attacker Yannick Carrasco instead.
If true, this will be a big boost for Arsenal as it would rule out a realistic destination for Sanchez if he were to leave this summer. The club have made it clear we won’t sell to another English team so if Alexis wants to force his way out this summer then he needs to go abroad and now it looks like one Euro giant is out the running.

Obviously a lot can change and this could just be posturing by Bayern to try and get Sanchez to lower his demands but the more difficult it is for him to strike a deal with another club, the more likely it is he’ll opt to stay.
Let’s pray we can finally persuade the Chilean attacker to commit his future to Arsenal soon as it would be devastating to lose him.
