Update on Arsenal’s record breaking bid to sign 24-goal striker
The Telegraph have an update on Arsenal’s pursuit of Kylian Mbappe with the newspaper claiming Monaco have rejected our club record £87m offer for the striker.
News broke late on Thursday night that Arsenal had made a sensational swoop for Mbappe with French outlet L’Equipe reporting that we’d tabled a mammoth £87m (€100m) bid.
The newspaper said that Arsene Wenger has reignited his interest in the 18-year-old sensation after failing to persuade him to join Arsenal last summer despite spending time at the strikers home negotiating a move.
L’Equipe’s report indicated that Wenger had made it clear to Mbappe that he would make him the focal point of his attack next season after submitting the huge offer to Monaco.
We knew our bid was lower than the world record figure Real Madrid had already seen knocked back by the Ligue 1 champions but the hope was that the promise of first team football would be enough to tempt Mbappe to the Emirates.
The teenager is a superb talent but he would still struggle to start at Madrid or indeed Manchester City – who’ve also been strongly linked – so you could see why Arsenal were hopeful of pulling off a deal.
However, it seems we’re going to have to dig a little deeper as the Telegraph claim that our offer has been rejected with Monaco understood to be determined to hold on to Mbappe for at least another season.
The paper says Monaco have given no indication that they are willing to negotiate a deal and are instead hoping to tie the French international down to a new contract.

Obviously this isn’t the update we all wanted as it would have been a huge coup had Monaco and Mbappe accepted Arsenal’s proposal but I’m sure Wenger won’t give up the fight just yet.
We desperately need a top class striker this summer and there aren’t many more exciting talents around than Mbappe right now after he scored 24 goals to fire Monaco to the title so despite the stiff competition, I’m expecting Arsene to do all he can to lure the player to north London.
Will it be enough? We’ll have to wait and see…..
