24-goal striker set for Arsenal medical after agreeing personal terms

According to reports in Nigerian via Football London, Henry Onyekuru will undergo his medical with Arsenal later this month after agreeing personal terms ahead of his £6.8m move from KAS Eupen.

Arsene Wenger is set to begin a summer overhaul of his squad after signing a new two-year extension yesterday and attacking reinforcements appear to be on his agenda.

Onyekuru emerged as a prime target last week and Sky Sports News claimed on Wednesday that we had agreed terms with KAS Eupen to pay the strikers £6.8m release clause.

The move is now edging closer to completion as Football London are citing a report from OG Nigeria that claims the 19-year-old has agreed personal terms over a contract worth around £38,000-a-week.

All that’s left is to complete a medical and the Nigerian outlet says Onyekuru will travel to north London to undergo his medical tests after the current international break.

The teenager made his debut for Nigeria during their 1-1 draw with Corsica last week and is set to make another appearance for his country against Togo later today.

The Super Eagles then play an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa on June 10 with Onyekuru due to travel to the UK immediately after the game.

So if this report is accurate, then the striker should complete his move to Arsenal within the next two weeks as long as there are no complications with his medical.

Onyekuru is a left-sided attacker who finished the season with 24 goals in all competitions for Eupen to be named as the Belgian top flights leading goal-scorer so he’s certainly an exciting young talent.

With Lucas Perez set to head back to Spain after a frustrating season at Arsenal, I think Wenger is buying Onyekuru as a replacement but we still have to obtain a work permit which could be difficult given he’s only got 1 cap for Nigeria.

If a work permit is refused then we’ll have to take the case to an appeal in the hope of securing a ‘special talent’ visa. If that fails, then we’ll have to send him out on loan.
