24-year-old could face Lincoln after Arsenal suffer fresh injury blow
According to the Mirror, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger may decide to start Emi Martinez against Lincoln City later today as David Ospina is struggling with a shoulder injury.
Ospina has been our cup keeper so far this season and was in-line to face Lincoln in our FA Cup quarter final having started in all three of the previous rounds of the competition.
However, the Colombian international tweaked a shoulder injury during our 5-1 humiliation against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night and is now a major doubt to face Lincoln today.
There was no sign of Ospina in the photos published from training on Friday with youngster Ryan Huddart joining Emi Martinez and Petr Cech on the pitches at London Colney.
Martinez featured heavily in the snaps that were published on Arsenal’s Getty Images account from yesterday’s session while there was no individual photos of Cech, which could be an indication that the 24-year-old will start against the non-league club.
The Mirror suggest that Wenger could be tempted to start Martinez and I wouldn’t be surprised as whoever starts in goal will hopefully enjoy a relatively trouble-free evenings work.
I’m not sure that would go down too well with Cech though as reports suggest he’s already frustrated at not playing in the cup competitions so he’s unlikely to be impressed if Wenger opts for Martinez in our FA Cup quarter final.
