49-year old confirms to friends he’s replacing Wenger as Arsenal boss

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has told close friends he’ll replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager this summer.

Wenger’s position has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks after our hopes of winning the Premier League or Champions League were practically ended following defeats to Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of the season and a growing number of fans, ex players and pundits have been calling on Wenger to walk away rather than sign the new two-year extension that’s reportedly on the table.

Allegri has been many bookmakers favourite to take over this summer and the 49-year-old has been fuelling the fire in recent weeks after refusing to deny that he’s interested in coming to Arsenal.

Now, Calciomercato claims that Allegri told close friends during dinner at a restaurant that he will leave Juventus and replace Wenger as Arsenal manager at the end of the season.

The Italian outlet says that Allegri decided to end his reign as Juve boss after the club failed to back him following his very public bust-up with defender Leonardo Banucci earlier this month.

Understandably there has been a mixed response to the report on social media with some fans struggling to contain their excitement while others aren’t believing anything until something more concrete comes out.

Personally, I’d urge caution with this report but I’d be delighted if Allegri was the man chosen to replace Wenger this summer as he’s a winner having lifted the Serie A title numerous times with Juve and AC Milan.

We need an established name who’s got experience of being at a huge club, dealing with big name players and has the character to stamp his own authority on Arsenal with immediate effect, and Allegri ticks the boxes.
