Former Real Madrid hitman predicts Arsenal v Barcelona
Michael Owen has predicted Arsenal are in for a tough time when we take on Barcelona in the second leg of our Champions League last 16 tie tomorrow night.
We head to the Nou Camp on Wednesday needing to turn around a 2-0 first leg deficit having slumped to a disappointing defeat at the Emirates three weeks ago.
Since then, our form has nose-dived with our FA Cup replay win over Hull our only victory out of five games, so we head to Spain in poor form and low in confidence.
It’s no wonder then that former Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen is predicting another defeat against Barca tomorrow, with the 36-year-old tipping the Catalans to secure qualification to the last eight with ease.
In his Bet Victor blog, Owen said:
Arsenal travel to the Nou Camp as 33/1 outsiders to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League but realistically they are even more unlikely on paper and would need a minor miracle to turn the Catalans over in their own backyard. Barcelona are the 1/5 favourites to win the return leg on home soil, but are in a similar position to Manchester City and can afford the luxury of sitting back and being patient throughout the 90. Arsene Wenger’s side will struggle to shut-out a front-three of Messi, Suarez and Neymar that have collectively netted 100+ goals already this term and look likely to fire them to victory against the Gunners.
Michael’s recommendation; Barcelona to win to nil at 23/20
With the form we’re in, it doesn’t take a genius to predict we’re going to lose away to arguably the best team on the planet right now, but I do fear the psychological impact that a heavy defeat may have.
The squad’s confidence is already low following Sunday’s disappointing loss at home to Watford and with the Premier League also looking out of sight, a humiliation at Barca could be catastrophic.
Let’s hope the boys can put in a solid performance, come home with some dignity in tact and head to Goodison Park on Saturday’s with our heads held high as we desperately need a win at Everton to keep alive any faint hopes of the title.
