Wenger delivers worrying injury update on Arsenal star
Arsene Wenger has delivered a worrying injury update on Jack Wilshere after confirming the midfielder won’t return from his latest injury until February at the earliest.
Wilshere is yet to feature this season after undergoing surgery on a fractured fibula which he picked up in training on the eve of our Community Shield clash with Chelsea in August.
Initially Jack was expected to make his comeback in early January and there was even talk earlier this month of him being back before the New Year.
However, there has been no sign of the 23-year-old and Arsene has now offered a worrying update after revealing that Wilshere is making slow progress and won’t be available again until February at the earliest.
Wenger is quoted as saying in the Guardian.
“He will not be back before February, that’s for sure,”
“Is there a comeback date? I say February but, honestly, I don’t know. I let him do his recovery. It’s going slowly. Once he goes outside to train and once he is back again into sharp, hard work, physically, you count five or six weeks. At the moment, he is not there yet.”
It doesn’t sound good for Jack at all. He must have suffered some sort of setback and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not seen in an Arsenal shirt again until March.
As Wenger says, he’s not even doing heavy training sessions yet and when he does eventually step-up his regime, it’ll be six weeks before he’s back in contention – and that’s assuming he doesn’t suffer any further setbacks.
This was meant to be a defining season for Wilshere after years of injury problems but it’s turned into a nightmare and we really need to start worrying about his long-term future soon.
He simply can not continue missing large parts of the season through injury as it’s stunting his development and he’s never going to fulfill his ambition until he keeps himself fit.
