Arsenal Star Linked With Shock £30m Move To PL Rivals

The Sunday Times are reporting that Manchester City have made Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere a key transfer target this summer.

The defending Premier League champions are looking to overhaul their squad at the end of the season after an inconsistent campaign that looks destined to see them relinquish their title and end up trophy-less.

With several of their ageing squad under-performing, The Times claim that Manuel Pellegrini is planning to rebuild with an emphasis on young English players in order to help meet their quota.

Premier League and Champions League regulations state that clubs can not have more than 17 players above the age of 21 who have not spent at least 36 months of their development training in England, and this is something City are dangerously close to falling foul of – especially if the likes of Gael Clichy and James Milner leave this summer.

The newspaper claims that the Citizens have lined-up a number of targets with Wilshere apparently high on their priority list, and although The Times don’t suggest a potential fee, some other reports believe they’ll hope we do business at around £30m.

Jack has endured another frustrating season that’s been plagued by ankle injuries but I’d be surprised if we entertain any interest in him this summer.

The 23-year-old is Arsenal through and through and he’s still contracted to the club until 2018, so we’re under no immediate pressure to sell even if he wanted a move – which I doubt he does.

I think Arsene will keep hold of Wilshere and see if he can overcome his injury problems to really push on with his development next season. If he continues to suffer injuries and doesn’t progress, then perhaps we’ll consider his future in the summer of 2016 when he’ll have just two years left on his deal.
