Arsenal maintaining regular contact to sign Julian Alvarez
Arsenal have reportedly maintained regular contact to sign Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez, as per TEAMtalk.
The Gunners currently have Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyökeres to deploy in the centre-forward position. However, Havertz and Jesus have had fitness problems in recent months, with the Brazilian’s existing deal set to run until next summer.
Gyokeres was purchased last year to address the No.9 issue. But he displayed inconsistent performances last campaign, although the North London club won the Premier League title.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are planning to purchase a new striker and have identified Alvarez as a serious option.
The Gunners have maintained regular contact with the player’s representatives, and sporting director, Andrea Berta, has held direct contact with the Argentinian to persuade him to join.
However, Alvarez’s preferred destination is Barcelona, and the Blaugrana have already launched a formal proposal to seal the deal. Moreover, Real Madrid have also submitted a bid to sign him.
But the report state that Atlético Madrid have no intention of letting their star man join Barcelona or Los Blancos, while the forward doesn’t want to join the record European champions.
Alvarez to Arsenal
If he can’t engineer a move to the Catalan giants, Alvarez might be open to returning to England, and Atlético Madrid are ready to sell him to the Premier League champions.
Therefore, Arsenal remain hopeful of purchasing him, and agreeing on a deal in principle with Los Rojiblancos won’t be an issue.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain are also in this race as they want a new striker after selling Goncalo Ramos to AC Milan. Like Arsenal, they have been making contact with the player’s entourage throughout this summer.
Alvarez is a centre-forward by trait and has showcased his qualities at the highest level for club and country in recent years. After winning the World Cup with Argentina in 2022, he has helped his country reach the semi-final of the 2026 World Cup.
The 26-year-old is one of the best strikers in the world and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his services during this offseason.
