Arsenal join race to sign West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville
Arsenal have reportedly joined the race to sign West Ham United star Crysencio Summerville, as per a recent French report.
Having endured relegation, the Hammers are said to be looking to balance the books by selling some of their star players this summer. As a result, several names have been linked with moves away from the London Stadium.
Mateus Fernandes has attracted the most attention. Moreover, the futures of Jarrod Bowen, El Hadji Malick Diouf, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are also the subject of speculation.
Now, as per a recent French report (via TEAMtalk), Summerville has placed himself on the radar of several big Premier League clubs, having displayed impressive performances for club and country in recent times.
Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, and Paris Saint-Germain are all keen on him. But Arsenal have joined the race as well.
The Gunners want a new left-winger as Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard’s long-term futures aren’t secured, with their existing deal set to expire at the end of next season.
Apart from the Netherlands international, the North London club are also interested in Club Brugge star Christos Tzolis and Aston Villa ace Morgan Rogers.
Summerville to Arsenal
With Summerville’s existing deal set to run until 2029, West Ham are in a strong position to demand a big fee and have slapped a £50m price tag on his head.
Summerville showed glimpses of his qualities in the Premier League last campaign, although West Ham displayed woeful performances. However, he has taken his game to another level for the Netherlands in this World Cup, scoring twice and registering a solitary assist in two appearances.
He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and also works hard without possession.
Summerville is comfortable on either flank, and Mikel Arteta likes having versatile players. The 24-year-old is still very young and isn’t a finished article yet.
So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services during this offseason.
