Arsenal making concrete move to beat Chelsea to sign Gittens
Arsenal are reportedly taking ‘concrete steps’ to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens ahead of Chelsea, as per Caught Offside.
The Gunners have been busy in this transfer window to close the gap with Liverpool. They are reportedly close to purchasing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, while signing a new centre-forward is Mikel Arteta’s priority.
Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres are reportedly the primary options for the Spanish boss, but Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa has also been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Additionally, the North London club want a new left-sided forward following Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard’s average performances last campaign.
It was reported that Nico Williams of Athletic Club was their primary target, but the player is keen on joining Barcelona, and the Blaugrana have started working to hire him.
Now, Caught Offside state that after failing to persuade Williams to join, Arsenal have started taking ‘concrete steps’ to sign Gittens in this window.

Chelsea are also in this race and have already agreed on a seven-year deal with the forward. The Blues attempted to get the deal done before the Club World Cup but couldn’t manage to find an agreement with Dortmund.
Now, the North London club are ready to intensify pressure to seal the deal ahead of Enzo Maresca’s side. Dortmund have slapped a £51m price tag on the youngster’s head, with his existing deal set to run until 2028.
After moving to Signal Iduna Park from Manchester City’s youth system, the 20-year-old initially took time to settle down in his new surroundings before showcasing glimpses of his qualities last term.
In 32 starts in the Champions League and Bundesliga, he scored 12 goals and registered three assists. Moreover, he helped his side qualify for the Champions League by finishing in the top four.
Gittens is a left winger by trait, but can also provide cover on the opposite side. He is a talented player and possesses high potential, so he would be a shrewd acquisition for the Emirates club should they eventually manage to secure his service before the start of next season.
