Arsenal linked with move for Botafogo’s Igor Jesus
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Botafogo attacker Igor Jesus, according to a report from Fichajes.
The Gunners are believed to be looking for a new forward as they aim to strengthen their attack ahead of next season.
Arsenal have struggled in front of goal this term, especially in big matches. Their failure to convert chances has cost them vital points and silverware.
Mikel Arteta’s side have created several openings throughout the campaign but often lacked a clinical finisher to take advantage.
Jesus has been linked with a move to the Premier League for some time, with Arsenal often mentioned as a possible destination.
Gunners in search of a reliable goalscorer
The 24-year-old has a release clause of around £84 million, as reported. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be ready to match that price.
Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have both played up front this season but neither has scored goals on a regular basis.
This has increased the urgency for Arsenal to bring in a proper striker who can deliver goals consistently across all competitions.
A move for Igor Jesus could help fix this problem. He has scored six goals and provided one assist in 22 matches for Botafogo this season.
Although these numbers are not outstanding, he is still developing and could improve further in a more competitive environment.
The Brazilian can play in several attacking roles, which adds to his appeal. His versatility would give Arteta more options in the final third.
If Arsenal manage to sign him, it would be a big step in the player’s career. The chance to play in the Premier League may be hard to ignore.
He would get the chance to grow alongside some of the best players in Europe while also helping Arsenal fight for major trophies.
For now, the Gunners remain interested, but it is still unclear whether they will push hard to bring the player to north London this summer.
