Arsenal predicted line-up against Brentford
Following a 3-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final first leg, Arsenal will welcome Brentford at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League this afternoon.
Declan Rice scored two exceptional free kicks before Mikel Merino netted the third one against Los Blancos in midweek. Therefore, they are heavy favourites to reach the semi-final.
The Gunners are currently second in the Premier League, sitting 11 points behind league leader Liverpool. Seven games left to play this season and their possibility of trumping the Reds in this race is looking bleak.
Arsenal defeated the Bees 3-1 in the reverse fixture earlier this season at Gtech Community Stadium.
Team news
Bukayo Saka and Rice limped off versus Real Madrid in the second half and there were concerns about the severity of their issues, thankfully, they are fit enough to feature today.
However, Riccardo Calafiori remains out with his injury issue, while Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, Kai Havertz and Takehiro Tomiyasu’s season is over so they aren’t in contention to feature.
Raheem Sterling was suspended in midweek’s game against Real Madrid but is eligible to play this weekend.
Predicted line-up
Mikel Arteta is expected to make wholesale changes to his starting eleven today to give breathers to key players before next week’s Champions League second leg at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
However, David Raya should continue between the sticks. William Saliba is expected to be in the centre-back position and Jakub Kiwior would be alongside the Frenchman.
Ben White may be in the right-back role ahead of Jurrien Timber, while Oleksandr Zinchenko could be on the left to give Myles Lewis-Skelly much-needed rest.
Jorginho is likely to be the deep-lying playmaker and Thomas Partey might be alongside the Italian in the engine room with Martin Odegaard in the attacking midfield position. Therefore, Rice should be among the substitutes.
Sterling is expected to be in the left flank, while Ethan Nwaneri may be on the opposite side. Therefore, Gabriel Martinelli and Saka would feature as substitutes if needed. Leandro Trossard could be leading the line for the North London club to give Merino a rest.
Expected Arsenal line-up vs Brentford
Raya; White, Saliba, Kiwior, Zinchenko; Jorginho, Partey, Odegaard; Sterling, Trossard, Nwaneri
