Arsenal keen on signing Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Gunners have had an inconsistent campaign in the Premier League this season, sitting 11 points behind the league leader Liverpool with seven matches remaining. Therefore, it is likely that Mikel Arteta’s side are set to come second in the title race once again.
However, the North London club have been in excellent form in the Champions League this term. Having finished third in the league phase, they comfortably overcame PSV Eindhoven’s challenge in the last-16.
They have been drawn to play against mighty Real Madrid in the quarterfinal stage and thrashed the record European Champions in the first leg 3-0. Declan Rice scored two outrageous free kicks before makeshift No.9, Mikel Merino, netted the third.
Therefore, Arsenal are now heavy favourites to reach the semi-final. Still, they need to stay calm as the away leg at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu won’t be easy.
Guerra to Valencia
In the meantime, Arteta’s side have seemingly started planning to reinforce the squad this summer to finally win the Premier League title next season.
Fichajes state that Arsenal are planning to revamp the midfield department as Thomas Partey and Jorginho are likely to leave as free agents at the end of this season and are willing to hire two players.
They are expected to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and along with him, Arsenal also want Guerra. Arteta’s side have been impressed by the youngster’s physicality and maturity, as well as his tactical awareness. Los Ches could be open to cashing-in on him amid their financial difficulties with his existing deal set to run until 2027.
Having ranked through Valencia’s youth system, Guerra has established himself as a key player for his boyhood club. He helped them finish mid-table last term and has been guiding them to survive relegation this season.
Guerra, valued at around £17m by Transfermarkt, plays as a box-to-box midfielder but can also be deployed in the No.10 and deep-lying playmaker position. He is a talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him.
