Arsenal hold talks to sign Brighton star Evan Ferguson
Arsenal have reportedly made contact over a deal to sign Brighton and Hove Albion star Evan Ferguson, as per The Guardian.
The 20-year-old burst onto the scene having displayed impressive performances for the Seagulls a few seasons ago but his development has been hampered due to injury problems in recent times.
As a result, he has found it difficult to break into Fabian Hurzeler’s starting eleven this season, making only two Premier League starts. So, it has been reported that Brighton are ready to let him leave before the deadline.
The Guardian report that Arsenal are interested in hiring the Irishman and have already made contact to learn about the details of securing his service. Hurzeler’s side are open to letting him leave on a loan deal but are prepared to sell him permanently for a fee of around £40m.
Purchasing him won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Bayer Leverkusen, Everton, Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur are also in this race and have also enquired about this deal. Moreover, West Ham United are also keen on purchasing him and are in a strong position to get the deal done.
Ferguson to Arsenal
The Gunners are looking to sign a new striker before the deadline following Gabriel Jesus’ serious knee injury. They already made an attempt to purchase Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa by submitting a £60m offer.
However, the Villans turned down the proposal as they don’t want to sell their talisman in mid-season. So, perhaps, Mikel Arteta has identified Ferguson as an alternative option to Watkins.
Although the Brighton star, standing at 6ft 2in tall, has struggled in recent times, he possesses high potential and has plenty of time to turn his future around. However, he isn’t a finished product and needs time to reach his full potential.
Having established themselves as the title challengers, Arsenal need a readymade striker to help them finally win the Premier League title. Therefore, if Arsenal opt to sign the Brighton star, they would be better off going for a new experienced centre-forward as well.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to lure Ferguson to the Emirates Stadium before the deadline.
