Arsenal open talks to sign Benjamin Sesko next year
Arsenal have reportedly started making moves to sign RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko next year, as per Caught Offside.
The Gunners were said to be looking to sign a new striker this summer with the Slovenian emerging as a serious option. But, following his decision to remain at the Red Bull Arena, Mikel Arteta’s side didn’t go for any other centre-forwards despite being linked with numerous other names.
Now, Caught Offside states that despite failing to secure his signature this summer, Arsenal remain keen on signing him and have already started making contacts to get the deal done next year.
It has been reported that Leipzig have a verbal agreement with Sesko to sell him next summer if a suitable proposal worth around £63m is tabled by his potential suitors such as Arsenal.
Therefore, CO states that Arsenal are ‘confident’ and ‘optimistic’ that they would be able to lure him to the Emirates Stadium next year. However, Mikel Arteta also has alternative options on his wish-list if Arsenal eventually can’t find an agreement to sign Sesko with Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram being one of them.
Sesko to Arsenal
Sesko is deemed one of the most talented young strikers in the world and signing a player of his potential would be a great acquisition with a view to the long-term future.
Given the Gunners already have Kai Havertz at their disposal and he has been showcasing his goal-scoring prowess, Arteta wouldn’t have to throw Sesko straight into the starting eleven. So the youngster would get proper time to settle down in his new surroundings and flourish in the Premier League if he were to join the club next year.
Sesko, standing at 6ft 5in tall, is blistering quick and has the ability to hit long-range strikes. Moreover, he can finish off his chances and is also good in the air.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club can eventually manage to secure his signature next year to strengthen the attacking department.
Meanwhile, Arsenal made a few new acquisitions this summer to freshen up the squad and help Arteta mount yet another title charge this season.
Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino joined the club to bolster the backline and the midfield respectively, while Neto signed to replace Aaron Ramsdale – who joined Southampton to play regularly.
