Arsenal keen on signing Viktor Gyokeres this summer
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Following underwhelming performances from Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah this season, the Gunners are reportedly set to prioritise signing a new prolific goal-scorer in the upcoming transfer window.
They have been linked with a few strikers over the last few weeks but there aren’t many forwards who have scored as many as the former Coventry City star this season, scoring 43 goals and registering 15 assists in 49 appearances in all competitions for Sporting.
Speaking on GiveMeSport, Romano has reported that Arsenal have watched Gyokeres multiple times this season and after being impressed by his displays, they are now keen on signing him.
However, the journalist says that purchasing the 25-year-old won’t be easy for Arsenal as he has a £86m release clause included in his current contract so the striker is going to be very expensive. Romano also states that along with Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko is also on Arsenal’s wish-list to reinforce their frontline this summer.
Gyokeres to Arsenal
Romano said:
“These are two strikers that have been monitored, especially Gyokeres. For Gyokeres, they’ve been on a mission to Portugal with their scouts multiple times this year. He’s a striker they appreciate, they really like, but can be expensive, because he has a release clause of around 100 million euros and that could be too much.
“We have to see how much Arsenal want to invest in that position and if they want to invest that money in Gyokeres, so he is one of the players on the list for sure.”
Gyokeres is quick, strong, good in the air, efficient in linking-up the play, possesses the poacher’s instinct inside the box, has the efficiency of creating opportunities for fellow attackers and also works extremely hard without possession.
The Swedish international is a highly talented player and could be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to sign him in the upcoming transfer window to reinforce their attacking department.
