Alexander Isak reveals his stance on a potential Arsenal move
Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, while on international duty, has given Arsenal encouragement in their pursuit of his signature this summer.
This summer, Arsenal plan to bolster Mikel Arteta’s project by acquiring a top striker. It is believed that with a clinical frontman, this Arsenal side can go to the next level and compete on all fronts.
A number of top strikers have been linked, but transfer rumours about Swedish striker Alexander Isak surfaced unexpectedly last week. According to Football Insider, Newcastle United may have to sell Isak in the summer to balance their books and comply with FFP, with the outlet naming Arsenal as a possible destination.
Some Gooners were overjoyed to hear this information, and Isak has now refused to play down the rumours, suggesting that ‘things can happen’ if concrete approaches are made.
Isak addresses transfer gossips
The ex-Martin Odegaard team-mate at Real Sociedad has revealed that the transfer rumours do not affect him (implying he reads about them). Though he did not suggest he wants to leave Newcastle in the summer, he left the door open to a possible exit.
“It doesn’t affect me that much. It has been talked about many times, in many windows,” the Newcastle Star said about the rumours.
“I see it as just such a thing. Everyone knows that summer is coming and, if things show up, things can happen, but I actually haven’t even thought about it.”
Arsenal should evaluate Isak’s transfer opportunity; the ‘things can happen’ comment should breathe hope into the Gunners’ interest. However, any potential deal will cost big money. Transfermarkt values him at £60 million, but the Magpies may seek more.
While Isak has undoubted quality, with his persistent injuries, is signing him at a premium price a gamble Arsenal should take? That’s a big question Arsenal will ask themselves.
It will be interesting to see if the Gunners hierarchy decide to formalise their interest this summer, but if Isak could stay injury free, he’d be a superb addition to Arteta’s squad.
