According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin could join Arsenal this summer to replace Aaron Ramsdale.

With Thibaut Courtois sidelined for most of the season due to injury, Lunin, the Belgian’s backup, has made 23 appearances for Real Madrid this season. However, this will change next season, as he will revert to his backup role, so Lunin could be open to a move.

The report says Arsenal are ready to make their interest known. However, one wonders if he would be willing to move from being a backup at Real Madrid to becoming one at Arsenal.

This season, the Arsenal goalkeeping department went through major adjustments. Aaron Ramsdale had a fantastic 2022–23 season, almost leading the Gunners to a league title. However, Mikel Arteta unexpectedly sanctioned a deal for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya last summer.

Arteta claimed that he pushed for the Spanish goalkeeper to join his project in order to inject competition into his goalkeeping department. However, it didn’t take long for Raya to displace Ramsdale as Arsenal’s No.1 so it was clear Arteta believed he was the better man for the job.

Since the September international break, Raya has played in almost every Arsenal game, solidifying his status as the team’s first choice. Ramsdale has found himself in an unfortunate position where he does not play much, which has dealt a significant setback to his hopes of becoming England’s No. 1.

With his ambition, many predict that the Englishman will depart in the summer to join a team where he can play regularly. Arsenal should get decent money for him, but they’ll also need to replace Ramsdale.

Andriy Lunin for £17m

According to Defensa Central, Arsenal are interested in signing Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin to replace Ramsdale at the Emirates.

The report says the Gunners are ready to offer Madrid £17m to sign the Ukrainian international. With his contract set to enter it’s final year this summer, Madrid will be tempted to cash-in.

In order to lure Lunin to North London, Defensa Central says the Gunners will offer to double his wage to £6 million per year.

It’s going to be interesting to see how things develop over the coming months but Lunin would be a terrific replacement for Ramsdale if Arsenal could pull it off.
