Arsenal are reportedly ‘pressing’ hard to sign Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams in the upcoming transfer window, as per the Spanish journalist Pipi Estrada.

Having come through the Spanish side’s youth system, the 21-year-old has established himself as an integral part of Ernesto Valverde’s starting eleven in recent times.

So, it appears having been impressed by the youngster’s recent eye-catching performances in La Liga, the Gunners have registered their interest in signing him.

Speaking on El Chiringuito, Estrada has reported that Arsenal are eager to lure the forward to the Emirates Stadium ahead of next season and they are ‘pressing’ hard to make that into reality.

The journalist further claims that although the Spaniard has recently signed a new long-term contract with Valverde’s side, Williams is ‘going to leave’ the club at the end of this season.

Williams to Arsenal

It has been suggested that Williams has a £43m release clause included in his current contract so Arsenal can manage to secure his signature for a reasonable fee this summer.

Williams is a versatile player as he can play on both flanks. The youngster is quick, strong, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and also has the ability to deliver excellent crosses from the wide areas. In addition, he can create opportunities for fellow teammates, has the efficiency of finishing off his chances and also works hard without possession.

So, considering the winger can play on both sides, he would be able to support Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka. Therefore, with Arsenal reportedly looking to sign a new winger to bolster their frontline, Williams could be a shrewd signing with a view to the long-term future if they secure his signature.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club can eventually manage to acquire the Spaniard’s service in the upcoming transfer window.

Meanwhile, after thrashing West Ham United last weekend, Arsenal are currently third in the Premier League table with 52 points from 24 games, sitting only two points behind the league leader Liverpool. So, Mikel Arteta’s side will be desperate to beat Burnley this Saturday at Turf Moor Stadium to continue their title charge.
