According to Goal Brasil, Arsenal have inquired about Atalanta’s Brazilian midfielder Ederson.

Listening to Mikel Arteta speak recently about the winter transfer window, it became clear that Arsenal are highly unlikely to do any business before tonight’s deadline.

However, Arteta and his technical team of scouts are continuing to look for players to enhance the team over the long term and it appears they have identified Ederson as a target.

Goal Brasil claims that Arsenal are among the clubs who have inquired about the South American’s availability. Atalanta have ruled out a winter exit, but the report says the likes of Arsenal are already lining-up offers ahead of the summer.

Atalanta are resigned to losing Ederson at the end of the season and CalcioMercato suggest it will cost around £30m to get a deal done. So the Brazilian won’t break the bank.

With Thomas Partey tipped to leave the Emirates Stadium in the summer, Arteta could be eyeing Ederson as his replacement.

What’s the story about Ederson?

Ederson, 24, has been playing with a style that has been likened to Partey’s. The Brazilian enjoys tackling, is skilled at intercepting the ball, and wins aerial duels. The Brazilian’s composure, defensive coverage, and control make him a valuable asset any team would want.

Once you check him out, you will appreciate him; he can play as a 6 or an 8, and he has 6 goals and 1 assist. He also averages 2.6 tackles per game, with 1.1 aerial duel wins, according to WhoScored.

However, with Atalanta keen on pocketing £30 million from his sale, Arsenal, who, due to FFP, couldn’t spend much this winter, will have to wait until the summer to formalise their interest.

After Fabinho, Casemiro, Bruno Guimaraes, and Douglas Luiz, Ederson appears to be the next elite Brazilian midfielder to make a name for himself in Europe. As a result, it comes as no surprise that Arsenal will face stiff competition with Manchester United, Liverpool, Newcastle, and PSG also interested, as per Goal Brasil.
