Arteta says Kai Havertz becoming ‘more confident’
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has claimed that Kai Havertz is getting better and is gaining confidence after scoring in the back-to-back games.
The German joined the North London club from Chelsea in a £65m deal last summer. However, upon moving to the Emirates Stadium, the 24-year-old struggled to showcase his best for Arteta’s side over the last few months as a result, he had to face a lot of criticism.
The Gunners boss also came under fire for his decision to sign Havertz by spending a big fee, especially after his underwhelming spell at Stamford Bridge.
However, the midfielder has silenced his critics a bit after scoring in back-to-back games. Havertz put his name on the scoresheet against Brentford in the Premier League last weekend and helped his side come away with all three points, while he scored the opener versus RC Lens in the Champions League last night – where Arsenal managed to thrash their opponent 6-0.
Now, during a recent interview, Arteta has said that Havertz is getting better and his contributions in recent games are extremely promising. The Gunners’ boss further states that the midfielder is gaining confidence after scoring important goals in the last two games.
Arteta lauds Havertz
Arteta said:
“He’s becoming better and better, he’s more confident. His two goals, two very important goals as well, because one won us the game and yesterday he opened the scoring. His overall contribution again was really, really good.”
Havertz is certainly a highly talented player but he struggled to showcase his best at Chelsea as he was never given the chance to play in his preferred midfield position.
However, Arteta has been using him in his best position so it’s likely that Havertz will be able to showcase his best for the North London club going forward.
If Havertz can find his form then a midfield trio of Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and the German is going to be a mouth-watering prospect for the Emirates faithful. So, the Gunners fans will be hoping that the German international will be able to showcase consistency from now on.
Meanwhile, after defeating Lens in the Champions League, Arsenal will face off against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
