Arsenal keeping a close eye on Galatasaray star Akturkoglu

By on October 11, 2023

Arsenal are reportedly keeping a close eye on the development of Galatasaray star Kerem Akturkoglu ahead of a potential swoop in the upcoming transfer window, as per the Turkish outlet Foto Mac.

After moving to the Rams Park Stadyumu back in 2020, the 24-year-old has established himself as an integral part of the Turkish giants’ first eleven in recent times.

Akturkoglu played a key role in his side’s league triumph last season, scoring nine goals and registering 11 assists in 34 Super Lig appearances. The winger has continued his eye-catching displays this season as well and it seems having been impressed by his recent performances, the Gunners have registered their interest in signing him.

According to the report by Foto Mac, Arsenal’s scouts were in attendance at Old Trafford to watch him in action against Manchester United in the Champions League – where he helped his side win the encounter by putting his name on the scoresheet.

Akturkoglu to Arsenal

The report further claims that Kerem is valued at around £15m so the North London club could be able to sign the 24-year-old for an affordable price if they make a concrete approach.

However, Foto Mac states that West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich are also interested in signing him. So, Mikel Arteta’s side are likely to face a tough challenge from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for the Turkish international.

Akturkoglu is a versatile player as he is comfortable playing on the left wing but can also be deployed in the attacking midfield position. He is technically sound, has the ability to play threading passes between the lines, can finish off chances, has an eye for scoring goals from distance and also can deliver excellent crosses from the wide areas.

The 24-year-old is a talented player and could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature next year. However, having already got enough firepower in the attacking midfield department, they don’t need to invest more to bolster that position at the moment. In addition, I don’t think Akturkoglu possesses the necessary physicality to play on the flanks in the Premier League.

So, Arsenal could be better off exploring other options to strengthen their squad next year. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to formalise their interest in signing him next year.
