Arsenal are reportedly in contact with Crystal Palace to sell Rob Holding before today’s deadline, as per Sky Sports.

Having done the bulk of their incoming transfer businesses early in this window, the Gunners have prioritised trimming down the squad in recent times.

They have already sold several players over the last few weeks with Folarin Balogun, Nuno Tavares and Kieran Tierney being among them, but Holding is also on the outgoing list as he is not on Mikel Arteta’s plan.

According to the report by Sky Sports, Crystal Palace have opened talks with Arsenal to sign Holding and the player is keen on moving to Selhurst Park.

The report further claims that Sevilla are also interested in signing the Englishman but the defender is prioritising a move to the Eagles and will only consider joining the Spanish side if the Crystal Palace move falls through.

Holding to leave Arsenal

After joining the club back in 2016, Holding struggled to find regular game-time and it has been the same for him in recent times. So, given the defender – valued at around £7m by Transfermarkt – is not on Arteta’s plan, it is the right decision to sell him this summer as his existing deal is set to expire at the end of this season.

It has been suggested that Arsenal are willing to sign a new defender after Jurrien Timber’s unfortunate knee issue. Several names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times with Eric Garcia, Marc Guehi and Kyle Walker-Peters being among them.

However, it has been reported that Arsenal can’t afford to sign anyone having already splashed more than £200m this summer. But, after selling a few players, the North London club have managed to recoup some money.

But, it seems the Gunners haven’t managed to generate enough money to make a move for a new defender as they haven’t formalised their interest in signing anyone yet.

So, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually decide to make a concrete approach to sign a new defender over the coming hours.
