Arsenal interested in signing Inter ace Nicolo Barella
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella this summer, as per the transfer journalist Paul Brown.
After moving to the Giuseppe Meazza back in 2019, the Italian has established himself as an integral part of the Nerazzurri’s starting eleven over the last few years, helping his side in winning a Scudetto and a few domestic cup competitions.
The 26-year-old also played a pivotal role in his country’s Euro 2020 triumph. So, it appears after being impressed by Barella’s recent displays for club and country, Arsenal have decided to register their interest in signing him to beef up their engine room.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Brown has reported that Arsenal are unlikely to sign a new midfielder this summer unless they cash-in on any of their current options.
However, the journalist claims that if they sell any of their midfielder over the coming weeks then they could make a move for Barella to reinforce their middle of the park.
Barella to Arsenal
Brown said:
“Arteta told us on Friday that he wasn’t expecting any more business to be done, unless something unforeseen happens or a player leaves the club. So I think another midfield signing entirely depends on whether a midfielder is sold really, or if an offer comes in and Arsenal decide that it’s right for them to take it.
“I don’t think that they’re close to signing Barella, I don’t think they’re pushing very hard really for that one. But he is someone I think they quite like and someone who’s on their list. But like I say, I think any more incomings rely on outgoings now at Arsenal.”
Barella – valued at around £65m by Transfermarkt – still has three years left in his current contract so Inter are in no rush to let their star man leave and Arsenal will have to offer a lucrative proposal to persuade Simone Inzaghi’s side to sell.
It is highly unlikely that Arsenal will spend big on any new signing this summer having already splashed more than £200m. So, the Gunners aren’t expected to make a move to sign the Inter ace in this transfer window.
