Arsenal prioritising a move for Gremio star Bitello

By on July 18, 2023

Arsenal are reportedly prioritising a move for Brazilian star Bitello this summer, as per the transfer journalist Paul Brown.

The Gunners have decided to revamp their engine room in this transfer window and have already purchased Declan Rice from West Ham United in a record £105m deal after letting Granit Xhaka leave the club.

It has been suggested that Mikel Arteta is willing to sign a second midfielder this summer and is open to cashing-in on Thomas Partey. Several players have been mentioned as potential targets for the North London club over the last few months but Romeo Lavia has emerged as a serious option.

However, it has been reported that having signed the Belgian last summer, Southampton have no intention of letting their star man leave for cheap despite failing to stay up in the Premier League and want £50m.

Arsenal aren’t reportedly willing to match that figure so it appears they have decided to shift focus on alternative targets and it seems they have expanded their search to the South American market to sign a new midfielder.

Bitello to Arsenal

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Brown has said that Arsenal are planning to sign a second midfielder this summer and have identified Bitello as the primary target.

The journalist further claims that Edu knows the player very well and he has been keeping a close eye on the midfielder’s development in recent times.

However, Brown states that the Emirates club haven’t made a concrete approach yet to sign the 23-year-old, though things might change over the coming weeks.

Brown said:

“Arsenal are trying to sign another midfielder. At the moment, the favourite is Bitello from Brazil. Edu knows him very well and has watched him a few times already. I think he’s 23 years old and is expected to have a very bright future and wouldn’t cost the earth. I don’t believe Arsenal have actually made a firm bid to sign him yet, but I think that’s the next player that they might be trying to target.”

It has been suggested that Gremio are ready to sell their star man if they receive an offer of around £9m from his potential suitors such as Arsenal. So, it appears the North London club could manage to secure the 23-year-old’s signature for a bargain deal if they formalise their interest.

Bitello is a versatile midfielder and can play multiple positions across the middle of the park. He is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has excellent close control, has the ability to create chances for the attackers and also works extremely hard without possession.

The Brazilian is an extremely talented player and possesses high potential. So, he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they sign him in this transfer window.

From the clips I’ve seen of this guy, he looks a decent enough player, with a good long range shot and like most brazillians, a bit of flair, but If I had to choose between him and Trindade, it’s the latter for me. Trindade for me looks more robust with a higher lever of energy and quickness, and very good in dribbling his way out of tight space. Bitello does seems to have more of an eye for goal though. Truth be told, I wouldn’t mind either one of them.
