Arsenal set to launch improved bid to sign Jurrien Timber
Arsenal are reportedly set to launch an improved second bid to sign Ajax Amsterdam star Jurrien Timber this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
After exploring several options over the last few months, the Gunners have set their sights on the 22-year-old to bolster the backline ahead of a crucial next season.
The North London club have already opened formal talks with Ajax to sign the defender and have submitted a £30m bid to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
However, the Eredivisie giants have rejected Arsenal’s opening proposal as they are demanding a fee of around £50m to let their star man leave.
But, it has been suggested that Arsenal are optimistic that Ajax will eventually reduce their valuation and a deal can be agreed upon for a compromised fee.
Timber to Arsenal
Fabrizio Romano previously reported that the youngster has agreed to move to the Emirates Stadium and Arsenal are ‘advancing’ in talks with Timber’s representatives regarding the personal terms.
Now, writing on Twitter, Romano has said that Arsenal are preparing to submit an improved bid to sign the defender. However, the journalist didn’t mention the exact figure of the Gunners’ imminent second proposal.
Romano wrote:
“Arsenal are preparing their second bid for Jurrien Timber. Expectation’s to be submitted soon — crucial step after green light from the player. Arteta has already approved Timber as priority target for this window.”
Timber is a versatile defender as he is a centre-back by traits but can also be deployed in the right-back position. So, the Dutchman would be able to deputise for William Saliba and Ben White when needed.
The 22-year-old is technically sound, quick, comfortable playing out from the back, excellent in defensive contributions and also reads the game extremely well.
Timber is an extremely talented player and possesses the potential to become a world-class defender in the future. So, he would certainly bolster the Gunners’ backline if they lure him to the Emirates Stadium in this transfer window. It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually manage to secure his signature over the coming days.
