Arsenal eyeing swoop to sign Dinamo Zagreb star Sutalo

By on April 26, 2023

Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a swoop for Dinamo Zagreb defender Josip Sutalo in the upcoming transfer window, as per the Croatian outlet SN.

The 23-year-old has been enjoying a stellar campaign at the Maksimir Stadium this term, scoring two goals and keeping six clean-sheets in 21 league appearances.

The defender was instrumental in the Blues’ league triumph in the last two consecutive seasons and he has been playing a key role in their quest of winning another title this term as well.

Sutalo’s eye-catching performances for Dinamo Zagreb haven’t gone unnoticed as according to the report by SN, Arsenal have been showing an active interest in the Croatia international and they are set to send scouts to watch him play in tonight’s HNL game against Varazdin ahead of a potential summer move.

The report further claims that the Blues are ready to cash-in on their star man if Arsenal submit an offer of around £17m. So, Sutalo would be an affordable purchase for Arsenal if they decide to make a concrete approach this summer.

Sutalo to Arsenal

SN also says that Sutalo isn’t the only Dinamo Zagreb player who is on Arsenal’s radar as the Gunners are also interested in their 20-year-old midfielder, Martin Baturina.

Arsenal’s defensive frailties have been exposed in recent times amid William Saliba’s injury absence. So, it has become apparent that the Gunners need to bolster their backline to challenge on all fronts next season. Sutalo could be a solid acquisition to solve that problem if the North London club push forward with this deal and get it done during the off-season.

Sutalo, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is a right-footed centre-back. He is technically sound, good in the air, possesses the recovery pace to play in the high defensive line, is comfortable playing out from the back, is excellent in defensive contributions and also has an eye for long-range passing.

The 23-year-old is an extremely talented player and would be an ideal option to play in Arteta’s style of football if he were to move to the Emirates Stadium.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal decide to formalise their interest to sign the Croatia international if they opt to strengthen their back line at the end of this season.
