Arsenal are reportedly pushing hard to sign Atletico Paranaenses forward Vitor Roque in the upcoming summer window, as per the Spanish outlet Sport.

The Gunners have been monitoring the South American market closely since the arrival of Edu Gasper as the sporting director and have already brought in Gabriel Martinelli and Marquinhos in recent years.

Martinelli’s transfer has been a great success as he has established himself as an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s first eleven, playing a key role in the Gunners’ title march this term.

Arsenal have seemingly been carrying on their search for young talents in South America and Roque appears to be the player who has caught the north London club’s attention in recent times.

The 18-year-old was an integral part of Brazil’s youth team that won the U20 Copa America a couple of months ago, scoring six goals and registering a solitary assist in eight appearances.

Sport Witness cites and translates the print version of Sport as saying that Arsenal ‘aspire’ to sign the highly talented forward this summer and they are pushing hard to get this deal over the line.

Roque to Arsenal

The report further claims that Arsenal have already opened negotiations with the player’s representatives over a potential summer move and they are the ‘strongest bidders’ to secure Roque’s signature.

However, the report says that purchasing the 18-year-old won’t be straightforward for the north London club as Barcelona are also preparing to make a move for him.

It has been suggested that Atletico Paranaenses could ask a fee of around £44m to let their star man – who still has more than four years left in his current contract – leave this summer.

Arsenal would be in an advantageous position over Barcelona in getting this deal done as the Catalan giants’ summer spending has been restricted due to the FFP rules.

The 18-year-old is technically sound, can wriggle past the opposition defenders in tight areas, is good in link-up play, has an eye for scoring goals from distance and also works extremely hard without possession.

He possesses the necessary attributes to become a world-class striker going forward. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they can manage to broker this deal.

However, the forward is still a raw talent so he needs proper guidance and time to blossom if he were to move to the Emirates Stadium at the end of this season.
