Ilkay Gundogan

Arsenal have received a huge boost in pursuit of Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan as the German is ready to leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of this season, as per the Spanish outlet Sport.

The Gunners have enjoyed great success signing players from the Citizens in recent times. They purchased Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer and after failing to finish in the top four last term, those two players’ arrival has made the north London club a title contender this season.

So, following their recent transfer success, it appears Mikel Arteta – who spent a few years at City as Pep Guardiola’s assistant – is planning to raid his former club once again this summer and Gundogan is in his sights this time around.

The German’s current deal is set to expire at the end of this season and he hasn’t signed an extension with Guardiola’s side yet. So, speculation surrounding his future continues to grow ahead of the summer window and Arsenal are looking to take advantage of this situation by signing the 32-year-old for free.

Gundogan to Arsenal

According to the report by Sport, despite Man City’s desire of keeping hold of him, Gundogan has decided to part ways in order to take a new challenge in his career and in that case, Arsenal will be handed a huge boost to sign the midfielder as a free agent this summer.

However, the report further claims that signing the 32-year-old won’t be easy for the north London club as Barcelona are also keen on signing Gundogan and the midfielder is willing to join the Catalan giants.

So, if Arsenal decide to make a formal move to sign Gundogan this summer then Arteta could play a pivotal role in persuading the midfielder to move to the Emirates Stadium and beat Barcelona in this race.

Gundogan – valued at around £20m by Transfermarkt – is a serial winner and possesses an abundance of experience playing at the highest level. So, he would be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal if the north London club manage to get this deal over the line.
