Arsenal eye double swoop for Premier League duo next summer

Arsenal are reportedly plotting a double summer swoop for Premier League duo Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo, as per The Times.

The north London club were keen on strengthening their engine room this winter and identified the Ecuadorian as their primary target. However, despite submitting two official proposals worth up to £70m, the Gunners could not manage to broker a deal as the Seagulls were determined not to let their star man leave mid-season.

After failing to secure the 21-year-old’s signature, Arsenal shifted their focus to alternative targets to strengthen their squad in order to continue their title charge this term and signed Jorginho on deadline day from Chelsea.

It appears the Italian is a stop-gap signing for Arsenal and they are now exploring the possibility of reinforcing their midfield with long-term additions in the summer. And Declan Rice has widely been suggested as their primary target.

However, according to the report by The Times, Arsenal are looking to purchase more than one midfielder and are plotting a swoop for Caicedo along with Rice.

Caicedo to Arsenal

The report further claims that Arteta’s side are confident of signing Rice in the summer and are also set to rekindle their interest in the Brighton man.

Caicedo still has two and a half years left in his current contract. So, Roberto De Zerbi’s side are in a strong position to ask a big fee for the youngster next summer. And it has previously been reported that Brighton might ask a fee of around £90m to let their star man leave.

On the other hand, Rice is likely to cost around £80m, therefore, Arsenal will have to spend £170 combined to sign both Rice and Caicedo in the summer.

Arsenal are seemingly planning for a mega-spending spree at the end of the season to strengthen the squad in order to continue challenging for the Premier League titles and compete in the Champions League going forward.

The duo have already showcased their talent in the Premier League over the last few years so, they would be great coups for Arsenal if the Gunners can manage to get both deals over the line.
