Arsenal will reportedly have to pay a whopping £120m fee plus bonuses to sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice next summer, as per the talkSPORT presenter Jim White.

Despite signing Jorginho on deadline day from Chelsea this January, it has been reported that the north London club are still plotting a summer swoop for a new midfielder to strengthen the engine room and Declan Rice has been suggested as a prime target.

David Moyes has recently warned that Rice’s potential suitors such as Arsenal will need to break the bank to sign the England international as he will not be allowed to leave for anything less than a British transfer record fee – which is £107m.

And now Speaking on talkSPORT, White has said that West Ham are expected to ask a fee of around £120m plus bonuses to sell Rice next summer.

As well as having to pay a mammoth fee, Arsenal also face competition as White says Chelsea are keen on re-signing Rice while Man Utd are in the hunt having already seen a £100m bid rejected last summer.

White said:

“What would it take for a bid to be deemed successful in the next window? It is our understanding £120million, plus add-ons, would get him.

“We understand that Manchester United last summer bid £100m and didn’t get him. Chelsea, Arsenal and United are still in the frame.

“That’s what it would take £120m, plus add-ons.”

Rice to Arsenal

The 24-year-old has previously expressed his desire to play in the Champions League and has reportedly turned down an opportunity to commit his long-term future to West Ham. So, it is believed that the midfielder is likely to leave the London Stadium at the end of this season in order to take the next step in his career.

The Englishman has entered the final 18 months of his current contract and there is an option to extend the deal for one more year. So, the Hammers are in a strong position to ask a big fee if they are forced to let the 24-year-old leave in the summer.

The midfielder has already showcased his talent in the Premier League and with England national team over the last few years. Therefore, he would be a very good acquisition for Arsenal if the midfielder were to join the club.

But, the reported £120m fee could be a big stumbling block in getting this deal over the line next summer. Arsenal’s hierarchy will try to negotiate a lower price but with the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd also in the hunt, it’s going to be difficult to compete with them financially.
