Real Sociedad reveal price tag of Arsenal target Zubimendi
Arsenal have reportedly been made aware that they will need to trigger Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi’s £53m release clause to sign him this month, as per The Times.
After coming through La Real’s academy, the 23-year-old made his senior first-team debut back in 2019 before establishing himself as the mainstay in Imanol Alguacil’s side over the last few years.
Real Sociedad have been enjoying a stellar campaign so far this term, sitting third in the table with 38 points from 18 games and Zubimendi has been one of the catalysts of their success this season.
Having displayed promising performances this campaign, the youngster has caught the attention of big clubs around Europe, with Premier League leaders Arsenal being one of them.
The Gunners are reportedly keen on strengthening their engine room before next week’s transfer deadline and have been linked with several midfielders, with Zubimendi emerging as a serious target.
Zubimendi to Arsenal
According to the report by The Times, Real Sociedad have made it clear that they have no intention of letting their star leave this month unless Arsenal trigger the Spaniard’s £53m release clause.
The Spanish international still has four and a half years left in his current contract, and La Real are in no rush to sell their star over the coming months.
The defensive midfielder is technically sound, good in the air and excellent in defensive contribution. So, he would be able to support Thomas Partey if the club’s hierarchy can manage to get this deal done this winter.
Having already spent more than £40m in purchasing Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior this month, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will invest the reported £53m fee to sign the 23-year-old before the window slams shut.
With Arsenal set to qualify for the Champions League next season, they need proper depth in their squad to compete at the highest level consistently and signing Zubimendi would be a great decision.
However, apart from the Real Sociedad star, the Gunners have also been linked with Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice. The Premier League duo are seemingly options for the summer as West Ham and Brighton & Hove Albion aren’t willing to let their stars leave in midseason.
