Arsenal are reportedly showing interest in signing Brighton & Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard, as per the talkSport journalist Alex Crook.

The 28-year-old has been enjoying a productive campaign at the AMEX Stadium this term, scoring seven goals and notching up two assists in 16 Premier League appearances. Following impressive displays this season, the Belgian has started to attract attention from the upper echelons of the Premier League.

The forward’s current contract is set to expire at the end of this season and there is an option to extend the deal for one more year. It was previously reported that Brighton were planning to open talks with the player’s representative over a new long-term deal, but Trossard is yet to sign an extension and the speculation regarding his future is growing.

Writing on Twitter, Alex Crook has said that Brighton have decided to trigger the Belgian international’s extension clause in order to prevent him from agreeing on any potential pre-contract deal with foreign clubs this January and leaving for free next summer.

Trossard to Arsenal

The journalist also says that Arsenal are interested in signing the Brighton ace and are keeping a close eye on the 28-year-old’s current situation. However, the Gunners are set to face tough competition to sign Trossard this January or next summer as arch-rival Tottenham Hotspur are also eyeing a move for him.

Crook said:

“Led to believe #THFC interest in Trossard is genuine. No firm bids yet. Is under contract until 2024 after #BHAFC triggered a year’s option. I’m told #AFC also monitoring developments.”

If Brighton fail to find an agreement with Trossard over a new long-term deal then the Seagulls could opt to cash in on their ace this month or next summer in order to make the most profit out of his sale.

Trossard – valued at around £26m by Transfermarkt – is a versatile forward who can play anywhere across the front line. So, his versatility would be a great asset for Mikel Arteta’s side if the 28-year-old were to move to the Emirates Stadium.

However, it was revealed recently that De Zerbi has grown frustrated with Trossard’s lack of effort during games. So, the Italian boss opted to leave the forward out of the starting eleven in recent weeks.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal decide to make a move for Trossard, as Arteta is known for wanting hard-working attackers who press from the front, so the Belgian may not be a good fit for his system.
