Arsenal receive huge boost in pursuit of Mykhaylo Mudryk
Arsenal have reportedly received a huge boost in pursuit of Shakhtar Donetsk forward Mykhaylo Mudryk as the Ukrainian giants have decided to lower the youngster’s asking price, as per the Italian outlet TUTTOmercatoWEB.
The Gunners have seemingly identified the 21-year-old as their primary target to strengthen their forward department this month. And they have already opened official negotiations to sign the highly talented winger.
The north London club previously submitted a formal proposal of around €40m (£35m) plus bonuses of around €20m (£17m) to sign Mudryk. But, Shakhtar rejected that offer and it was widely reported that they were demanding a fee of around £85m.
The Evening Standard recently reported that Arsenal have submitted an improved bid – which is around £60m, including bonuses – to acquire the youngster’s service. The Emirates outfit want to seal the deal before the North London Derby which is scheduled on 15th January.
According to the report by TUTTOmercatoWEB, Shakhtar Donetsk have decided to lower Mudryk’s valuation and they are now open to accepting a fee of around €70m (£61m) to let their biggest asset leave this January.
Mykhaylo Mudryk to Arsenal
If this report is considered to be true then Arsenal’s second bid is very close to Shakhtar’s current valuation. So, it can be said that the Gunners’ hierarchy have done a great job in persuading the Ukrainian giants to lower their huge initial £85m asking price.
The Times have recently reported that the Gunners have already agreed on a five-year contract with the player. The Emirates faithful can feel excited as it seems this deal is edging closer toward fruition.
Mudryk’s arrival would be a huge boost for Arteta as it would give him another top class option in the final third. The Spaniard is currently heavily reliant on Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka on the flanks, so Arsenal desperately need to bring in more firepower.
Meanwhile, after enjoying five consecutive victories in the Premier League, Arsenal failed to keep their winning run going as they had to settle for a goalless draw against rejuvenated Newcastle United on Tuesday night.
Following this result, Arteta’s side failed to extend the gap at the top of the table to 10 points. They have so far been able to accumulate 44 points from 17 games, eight points ahead of second-placed Manchester City who have one game in hand.
Arteta’s side will now face off versus Oxford United in the F.A Cup next Monday before taking on arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
