Arsenal target Youri Tielemans is reportedly ready to wait until next summer before deciding on his next destination, as per the transfer journalist Paul Brown.

The Leicester City man was thought to be the priority target for the Gunners to bolster their midfield department during last summer’s transfer window. However, despite being linked with him throughout the summer, Arsenal never made an official bid to sign the Belgian and in the end, failed to purchase a new midfielder before the window slammed shut.

Meanwhile, after missing out on adding more firepower to their engine room in the last transfer market, it has widely been touted that midfield is one of the areas where the north London club want to strengthen this January.

A previous report stated that Tielemans is still on Mikel Arteta’s wishlist to bolster the middle of the park and the Spanish boss’ side are ready to make a January swoop for the Belgian. Arsenal had hoped to sign him on a cut-price deal as his current contract with the Foxes will expire next summer. The midfielder – who is valued at around £40m by Transfermarkt – has made it clear he won’t sign an extension so Arsenal are ready to take advantage of the situation.

Tielemans to Arsenal

However, speaking to GiveMeSport, Paul Brown has claimed that Tielemans is prepared to wait until next summer – when he will be a free agent – before deciding on his next move.

The journalist further states that Arsenal are expected to face tough competition to sign the highly-rated midfielder as many Premier League and European clubs will be eyeing a move for the Leicester man on a free next summer.

Brown said:

“I’m sure he’s caught a lot of people’s eye but, it seems from what we’re told, Tielemans is going to wait until he hits the open market as a free agent, which a lot of players do like to do these days. His contract is running down. He’s going to have his pick of clubs. I think there will be several others, both in the Premier League and abroad, who may decide to come in for him.”

Arsenal had the opportunity to sign Tielemans last summer but they never made a concrete approach to sign the Belgium international. So, this suggests that the 25-year-old isn’t the priority target for the north London club to bolster their midfield.

Arteta’s side appear to be keen on signing a defensive midfielder who can deputise for Thomas Partey and push the Ghanaian for the first-team place. Therefore, I think the Gunners may opt focus on filling that void before making any formal approach to sign Tielemans.
