Arsenal urged to make a move for Cristiano Ronaldo

Piers Morgan believes Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo would be a perfect signing for Arsenal to mount a title charge after the new year.

The Portuguese superstar is now making headlines after his explosive interview clip with Morgan went viral on Sunday night. He made some controversial comments about the Red Devils’ infrastructure and manager Erik ten Hag. It is now highly likely that the 37-year-old will leave the Old Trafford stadium in January after falling out with the club.

The TV Host and Arsenal fan Morgan has said that Mikel Arteta’s side should take full advantage of the current situation and sign the ex-Real Madrid man in this winter window as he believes Ronaldo would be the perfect addition to the Gunners’ squad to challenge for the Premier League title.

Ronaldo to Arsenal

Despite Morgan’s opinion, we feel signing Cristiano Ronaldo might not be a wise decision by Arsenal. The forward has struggled to showcase his best in this campaign with United and it could continue at Arsenal if he were to join the Emirates Stadium.

The Portugal international has reached the twilight of his career, and it has proven extremely difficult for him to perform at his best in the Premier League this season. Moreover, Arteta might not want to bring a big ego into his squad, having just offloaded Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last January, as it could disrupt the squad’s harmony.

Arsenal need to strengthen the flanks and the midfield department in January where they lack depth. It makes no sense to sign a centre forward, given they don’t need to bolster that position this winter. Not to mention Ronaldo is on a reported £26m-a-year contract at United, so it would be a huge investment in a 37-year-old. Therefore, Arsenal should avoid signing Ronaldo at all costs in the upcoming transfer window.

Meanwhile, after coming away victorious against Wolverhampton Wanderers last Saturday, the Gunners have now finished the first half of the season at the top of the Premier League with 37 points from 14 games, five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City. Arteta’s side will resume their league campaign on Boxing day versus West Ham United.
