Arsenal in talks to sign Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk
Arsenal have reportedly held a ‘very positive talk’ with Shakhtar Donetsk forward Mykhaylo Mudryk over a possible transfer move, as per the transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have enjoyed a brilliant start to this campaign and are currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table with 34 points from 13 games, two points ahead of second-placed Manchester City.
A recent report stated that the north London club are keen on strengthening their squad during the January transfer window – in order to keep their momentum going and mount a title charge after the new year – and the club’s hierarchy are ready to splash the cash to purchase Mikel Arteta’s priority targets this winter.
It has widely been touted that midfield and the flanks are the two areas where Arteta wants to add more options in this upcoming window, having missed out on strengthening the aforementioned two positions last summer.
Speaking on his YouTube channel (quoted by Daily Mail), Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Arsenal ‘have had a very positive talk’ with Mudryk’s entourage over a possible transfer move.
Mudryk to Arsenal
The journalist further states that Shakhtar could ask a fee of more than £60m to sell their star man in January but despite the huge price tag, the north London club are keen on signing the highly-rated forward due to the fact that the Gunners consider Mudryk is a ‘top talent’. Romano also expects Arsenal to be ‘busy’ in the next few weeks ahead of the winter window.
Romano said:
“They [Arsenal] have had very positive contacts on Mudryk on the player’s side. Now Shakhtar want more than £60m to £65m. But Arsenal are still following the player. They consider Mudryk a top talent and so Arsenal are still there but let’s see because now the race is open with many top clubs, but Arsenal will be busy in the next few weeks.”
The 21-year-old has started the new season in a blistering manner, scoring seven goals and assisting as many times in 13 games in all competitions. He displayed excellent performances in the Champions League this term against Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Celtic, proving he can do it against top opposition.
Therefore, Mudryk could be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal if they can finalise a deal for him. However, the reported £60m+ price tag could be a stumbling block for Arteta’s side to broker a deal for the Ukraine international in January.
