Arsenal could reportedly make a move for PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo in the January transfer window, as per Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth.

The Gunners were keen on signing a new winger in the summer transfer window and were linked with several players, but failed to secure a deal for any of them before the deadline.

Meanwhile, after missing out on strengthening their flanks in the last window, recent reports claimed that Mikel Arteta’s side are hoping to add more firepower to their flanks in January.

Speaking on GiveMeSport, Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that Arsenal could intensify their interest in signing Gakpo in January but a summer move is seemingly more likely.

The journalist further claims that Mikel Arteta’s side ‘would look at’ the Netherlands international – who has high potential – in the winter and the forward would be a perfect addition to the Gunners’ squad.

Gakpo to Arsenal

Sheth said:

“Arsenal is an interesting one, because, throughout the transfer window, I think the right side of the attack was a priority position. Now, Gakpo’s priority position, and preferred position, is on the left, but he can play in the centre and he can play on the right. At the moment, Saka’s occupying that right side of the front three just now.

“He would be someone that Arsenal would look at. I think it would fit the profile as well, as far as Arteta is concerned, because we know what he’s trying to build a squad of young players who’ve got high ceilings and high potential so it could be one that Arsenal do look at in January, potentially, but the summer is more realistically.”

Cody Gakpo would be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal. Arteta’s side need to add more options to their flanks and the Dutchman could be a great signing, given he is one of the most prolific attackers in Europe at the moment.

The 23-year-old – who still has almost four years left in his current contract – is valued at around 32m by Transfermarkt. The Eredivisie giants slapped a £39m asking price on him last summer. So, it can be expected that the highly-rated forward would be available for a reasonable fee in January, although his price might vary depending on his performance in the upcoming World Cup.
