Arsenal could reportedly make a move for PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo in January, as per the journalist Paul Brown.

The Gunners appear to be keen on signing a new wide attacker in the winter window and the Netherlands international has been mentioned as one of the potential targets for the north London club along with Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk.

During the press conference ahead of the game against Mikel Arteta’s side this evening, PSV boss Ruud van Nistelrooy confirmed that Premier League clubs have been showing interest in signing their star man in the upcoming transfer window.

Speaking on GiveMeSport, Paul Brown has stated Arsenal could sign Gakpo in January if they wish to, given his price tag won’t be an issue for the north London club.

The journalist further claims that the Gunners were capable of doing a deal for the Dutchman last summer but they never formalised their interest to sign the versatile forward.

Gakpo to Arsenal

Brown said:

“Arsenal were certainly capable of signing him in the summer if they wanted to, but they didn’t really pursue it. I don’t think it would be one that would be prohibitive in terms of price for them so, if they really wanted him, I think they could make it happen in January.”

Cody Gakpo would be an excellent addition to Arsenal’s squad. The Dutchman is quick, strong, good in the air, can create chances and also has an eye for scoring goals. The 23-years-old is the captain of the Eredivisie giants, therefore, he has leadership qualities as well. So, he possesses almost every attribute to become a world-class forward.

The Netherlands international can play anywhere across the front line, so, his versatility would be an asset for Arteta’s side if he were to move to the Emirates Stadium. Meanwhile, the youngster will be in action against Arsenal tonight so the Gunners boss will have a chance to scout the player up close.

Gakpo is valued at around £32m by Transfermarkt and despite having four years left on his current contract, it appears PSV are open to letting their star man leave in January. So, Arsenal shouldn’t miss out on an opportunity to sign a player of his quality, if he becomes available for a reasonable price.

Arsenal lack options in their flanks and Gakpo could certainly fill that void, given he can be deployed on either wing. So, I think signing the PSV man would be a shrewd decision and the Emirates faithful might be hoping that he would be able to replicate his Eredivisie form in the Premier League if he joins the club in January.
