Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz after submitting a formal £20m offer, according to reports.

The Gunners have been searching for a new midfielder throughout this summer transfer window and the need of adding more options to their midfield department have increased in recent days following the injuries to Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey.

Writing on Twitter, Fabrizio Romano has stated that Arsenal are pushing to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa before the transfer window slams shut. Although it won’t be easy for the north London club to pull this deal off, they are ready to try. The player’s agent is working as an intermediary to find an agreement between the two clubs due to the fact that the 24-years-old is keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium.

The journalist further claims – in a separate Tweet – that Mikel Arteta’s side are set to reach an agreement on personal terms with the player’s side and the negotiations between the two clubs are progressing.

TV dello Sport also reports that Arsenal have now agreed personal terms with Luiz and talkSPORT claims that the Gunners have submitted an offer of £20m, plus add-ons to sign the midfielder.

Villa are saying they are reluctant to let Luiz leave – despite the fact he has less than 12 months left on his contract – but they have agreed a deal with Wolves to sign Leander Dendoncker so it looks like they’ve already lined-up a replacement.

Douglas Luiz to Arsenal

So, it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal can manage to find an agreement with the Villans to sign the former Manchester City man. The Gunners have been linked with a move for Youri Tielemans throughout this summer transfer window, however, with only a few hours remaining before the deadline, Arteta’s side have seemingly intensified their interest in Douglas Luiz over the Belgian.

Both players’ current situation is pretty similar as they both have only one year remaining in their current contract with their respective clubs and they both would cost almost the same.

Therefore, it is surprising to see that Arsenal have opted to intensify their interest in Luiz over Tielemans. Nevertheless, the 24-years-old is a talented player who has displayed his qualities during his time at Villa Park, so the Brazilian would be a very good addition to Arteta’s squad if he joins the club.

Arsenal desperately need reinforcements in their engine room and Luiz can certainly do a very good job for Mikel Arteta’s side should he ends up joining the club before the end of the transfer window.
