Arsenal offer Gabriel Jesus huge £265k-a-week deal
According to reports via TeamTalk, Arsenal have offered Gabriel Jesus a huge contract worth around £265,000-a-week and his agents are now heading to London to push through a move from Man City.
Gabriel has been identified as Mikel Arteta’s prime target as the boss looks to bring in a top class striker having allowed Alexandre Lacazette to follow Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out the exit door.
The 25-year-old has just one year left on his contract and is looking for a new club after falling down the pecking order at Manchester City following the arrival of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
Arteta wants to reunite with Gabriel having worked with the South American during his time serving under Pep Guardiola and Arsenal are trying to fend off interest from several other clubs to land the forward.
Reports suggest Arsenal are going to submit a fresh offer closer to City’s £50m valuation after seeing an opening bid rejected, and the Evening Standard claims that Gabriel’s agents are heading to London to try and push through a deal.
As per TeamTalk, French journalist Nabil Djellit – who works for the likes of France Football and L’Equipe – also claims that Arsenal have offered Gabriel a lucrative contract worth around £265,000-a-week [€16m per year] in order to lure him to north London this summer. Djellit says we’ll also pay the striker a £860,000 [€1m] bonus if we qualify for the Champions League.
Previous reports have indicated that Arsenal are willing to hand Gabriel a significant increase on what he earns at City and we’ve offloaded Auba and Laca’s huge wages, so it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the figures put forward by Djellit are accurate.
It seems the next few days are going to be pivotal as Arsenal look to secure a deal for Gabriel. Any deal would involve huge sums and Arsenal cannot afford to get this wrong, as a new striker is the one key ingredient missing from this team.
Arteta clearly wants Gabriel and feels he’s the right fit for our attacking system, so we have to trust the boss to get it right. Let’s hope we can get this deal over the line….
