According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are working on a mega deal to sign Dusan Vlahovic this month with the £58m-rated Fiorentina hitman wanting a contract worth around £300,000-a-week.

Mikel Arteta has confirmed he’s looking to strengthen his squad this month and while a central midfielder remains a top priority, the Gunners boss is also in the market for another striker.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future at the Emirates in serious doubt after being axed from the squad and stripped of the captaincy while Alexandre Lacazette’s contract runs out in June and there’s no sign he’ll be extending.

Eddie Nketiah is also set to leave when his contract runs out at the end of the season meaning Arsenal could be about to lose three strikers, so it’s no shock that Arteta is looking to bring in reinforcements this winter.

Vlahovic has emerged as Arsenal’s prime target and the Daily Mail says the club are working to seal a deal before the end of the month despite being told it will cost up to £150m to land the striker.

According to the newspaper, Fiorentina want a transfer fee of at least £58m to sell their prized asset while Vlahovic is demanding a five-year contract worth around £300,000-a-week to join Arsenal. Not only that, but his agents also want £15m meaning the entire deal would set Arsenal back around £150m.

Huge investment

That’s obviously a huge investment for the club but the Daily Mail says Arsenal haven’t been put off and are still pushing ahead with their attempts to sign Vlahovic this month after opening talks with Fiorentina.

The report says the 21-year-old wants to be playing top level European football – something Arsenal currently can’t provide – but we could still lure him to the Emirates if Arteta can convince the striker of his project.

Juventus are also thought to be chasing the striker and could provide stiff competition in the summer so Arsenal are hoping to get a deal wrapped-up this month to avoid a battle with the Serie A giants at the end of the season.

Vlahovic is one of the hottest talents in European football having scored 23 goals in 28 appearances for club and country this season so it would be a major coup if we could win the race for his signature.

At 6ft 3in, Vlahovic has a physical presence up front and and clearly has an eye for goal so he could be a terrific fit in Arteta’s system. Let’s see how things progress but I’d love to see the Serbian join Arsenal this month.
