Arsenal open formal transfer talks with Man City over deal to sign Bernardo Silva

By on August 10, 2021

According to Portuguese reporter Pedro Almeida, Arsenal have opened talks with Manchester City to discuss an audacious move to sign Bernardo Silva this summer.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a creative midfielder as we’re missing that player to help unlock defences. I thought it was still an issue at times last season even when we had Martin Odegaard but he’s returned to Real Madrid following his loan spell, leaving a huge hole to be filled.

Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen to re-sign the Norwegian but it’s not clear whether Odegaard will push for a move or stay in Madrid so we’ve been looking at alternatives and James Maddison has been strongly linked.

However, Leicester City’s £60m valuation is proving to be a big stumbling block so we’ve made very little progress in talks to sign Maddison. With just days left until the new season starts, fans are understandably concerned about the lack of creativity in the squad.

It looks like Arteta has identified another target as the Mirror reported recently that Arsenal are eyeing a shock move to sign Bernardo Silva after Pep Guardiola confirmed the Portuguese international wants to leave this summer.

City’s £100m acquisition of Jack Grealish has pushed Bernardo down the pecking order so he’s looking for a new challenge and the Express suggests that Manchester City will demand around £40m for his signature.

Talks underway

That makes Bernardo a cheaper alternative to Maddison and it looks like we’ve now formalised our interest as Portuguese reporter Pedro Almeida claims Arsenal have opened talks with Man City to discuss a potential deal.

Obviously Bernardo would be a superb signing for us if we could somehow pull it off and Arteta already has a relationship with the player having worked closely with him during his time at City.

The 26-year-old is in his prime years, he’d be a key player for us and is exactly the type of creative player we need so I’d love to see Arsenal go all out to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

However, it remains to be seen whether Bernardo would be willing to give up European football and challenging for titles to play for Arsenal. Almeida says Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are also interested so if they are prepared to match any offer from Arsenal, you’d think the player would opt for either of those clubs over us.

Let’s see how things develop but I’m not getting my hopes up just yet….

Buy Maddison, Ödegård on loan – and skip Silva. Gunners on attack.

Are you deluded, you cannot be serious, Silva is more likely to turn out for my pub team than play for Arsenal.
You Gooners are still under the impression that finishing 8/9th and being able to rest mid week because you are not in europe, would appeal to any top players
