Arsenal table offer to sign 24y/o star – Arteta really wants him, player keen on move

According to football.london, Arsenal have offered cash plus a mystery player in exchange for the signature of Leicester City playmaker James Maddison – who’s keen on a move to the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta is revamping his squad this summer after a disappointing campaign and we’ve already signed centre-back Ben White, left-back Nuno Tavares and midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.

However, Arsenal desperately need to sign a No.10 as Martin Odegaard has returned to Real Madrid following his loan spell during the second half of last season. Arteta would like to re-sign the Norwegian but it looks increasingly likely that he’ll stay at the Bernabeu so we’re on the look-out for alternatives.

Maddison has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal this summer and football.london claims Arteta has now made the 24-year-old Leicester star his primary target for the attacking midfield position.

The report says Arsenal have now made contact with intermediary agents to put forward a formal opening proposal involving a player plus cash offer in exchange for Maddison. football.london doesn’t know how much we’ve offered or the player included in the proposal but they say Leicester will want at least £60m to sell.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is probably the most likely player we’ve used as bait as he’s been linked with Leicester in the past – although the likes of Joe Willock, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah are also viable alternatives.

Interestingly, football.london claims a second unnamed London club [has to be Spurs?!] have also put forward a similar offer for Maddison but the player favours a move to Arsenal and is keen on making a switch to the Emirates if a deal can be done.

Arsenal have already spent over £70m this summer and money is tight after we failed to qualify for Europe so it makes sense for the club to try and use unwanted players as bait to reduce our financial outlay.

Maddison would be a terrific signing if we could get a deal done and while many rival fans question why he’d want to join Arsenal given our lack of European football, reports have suggested he’s not entirely content at the King Power.

The England international has been a key player since joining Leicester from Norwich in 2018 but he struggled to win back his first team place after recovering from a hip injury during the second half of last season. He was also named on the bench for Leicester’s FA Cup final win over Chelsea and Maddison was reportedly hugely disappointed at the decision.

So it looks like he could be open to a fresh start and Arsenal are making serious moves to get a deal done. Let’s hope we can find an agreement as he’d be an excellent addition to the squad.

Complete and utter speculation. Not a single fact substantiated in any way. Complete drivel.
