According to reports in France via Football London, Arsenal are eyeing a move to sign Morgan Sanson this summer and the Marseille midfielder is interested in a switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta is expected to be busy in the market over the coming weeks as he looks to overhaul the squad he inherited from Unai Emery and we’ve already snapped-up winger Willian from Chelsea on a free transfer.

Arteta is also trying to strengthen his defence as Arsenal are reportedly closing-in on a deal to sign centre-back Gabriel from Lille but the boss knows midfield is also a real area of concern that needs to be addressed this summer.

We’ve been linked with a number of players in recent weeks but Sanson has emerged as a potential target as Football London are citing a report from Le Phoceen that claims Arsenal chiefs are showing a keen interest in the Marseille midfielder.

The French outlet says that the 26-year-old is interested in moving to north London and they suggest that Matteo Guendouzi could head in the opposite direction to join Marseille as part of some sort of swap deal.

Guendouzi is set to leave Arsenal following a bust-up with Arteta over his attitude and disciplinary problems so it looks like we could use the Frenchman as bait to land Sanson if the club decide to formalise their interest.

Sanson has been a regular starter for Marseille since joining the club from Montpellier in January 2017 and he contributed 5 goals and a further 5 assists in his 27 Ligue 1 appearances last season.

The former French U21 international is a specialist central midfielder who knows how to play in a 4-3-3 formation well – which is reportedly the system Arteta wants to deploy at Arsenal next year.

It’s not stated in the report how much Marseille would want but Sanson is valued at around £20m by transfermarkt.com and he has two years left on his contract so he should be within Arsenal’s budget if we decide to make a move.
